My ‘56 Chevy

I'm on a dilema within the last weeks. Our company is growing and we need to increase our routing capacity.

We currently use something near 20mbps, but within the next months we'll go to 40, 60, 100mbps and we need to give a special attention to our routers.

Linux looks like a cheaper/affordable solution, but someone told me it's not stable/reliable after 20mbps.

What's your opinion about it?

I recently picked up some Avocent ip-kvm's, and unfortunatly didn't realize you needed to purchase their dsview software seperatly. It looks like it costs around $2,500-$3,000. GREAT! It's definatly a lot better than doing a single unit hooked up to a belkin normal kvm or something similiar. We got a DSR2010 & DSR4060. I thought they would at least have some kind of web interface or something you could use, but not from what I can tell, at least not on the older models. I was wondering if anyone knows if any of their models has a web interface you can use, without having to purchase the software seperatly? Something like an AV2000? Or are there any other software alternatives?

Apparently there website is getting ddosed. I was emailed and IMed the backup one! (DONT POST IT) i was asked not too so i wont. Incase they go down while they release.
Im assuming they want it not to be posted anywhre just incase so previous customers can upgrade if a ddos goes down!

But im personally looking forward to this update!

I have been watching thesecondweb very closely since it was launched. In the last couple of days, I noticed things slowing down a little. Now I know why. They were suffering a dos attack and also, their server wasn't big enough to handle all the traffic.

I read this on the blog:

Now, I think that thesecondweb is going to become really big. Give it another month and I think it's going to be up near 50k on Alexa or something.

I'd take bets on it but that's illegal I think :)

What do you think? Regardless of whether you like the site or personally think it's a good idea, you've got to admit that there's plenty of people that are going to be taking a look. I've been watching Google as well (simply by doing a search for "thesecondweb", and I can see an explosion of talk about it online.

I wanted to ask a question about "what if".

If a dedicated server with no raid had a hard drive failure, what is the process to get it back up and running providing I have all the cpbackup files.

Replace drive
Reformat
....?

How do you maintain your same IP's etc
How do you restore your data from cpbackup and all server configuration, ssl, etc?
