Transfering Website Data

Monday, March 31st, 2008
Hi guys,

Imma graphic designer thats getting into web design. I know this guy that wants me to maintain his business' website (change address, color, font, etc.). Its pretty much all basic html. What I'm wondering though is how do I go about getting all the info I need for the website. Do I just get it from the guy thats currently maintaining the website? Do I need anything from him. Can I just copy the source code from the website and paste it into dreamweaver, that way all I will need is the images? Will I have to change hosts' or servers (not really sure how that works)? I would just like to know what steps I have to take in order to do this.

Firefox vs. IE7

Saturday, March 29th, 2008
I was using the Internet Explorer web browser for about 4 years, and ever since i switched to Mozilla Firefox, I've had a tremendous upturn in browsing the web. Firefox is way better than IE "my opinion", and I've had an easier browsing experience using it.

I highly recommend Firefox!

Photoshopping

Monday, March 24th, 2008
So the photoshop tennis was a good idea I figure. Unfortunately, I kind of screwed up the match Sypher and I were having because I was busy and lazy, and Okura seems to have disappeared.

So I was thinking we could just have an open photoshop tennis fun match. Here's the rules:

- Anyone can join
- Each image uploaded has to either:
a. contain part of at least one previous image
b. have a very strong connection to a previous image

I'm making this up off the top of my head, so maybe the rules will need to be added to or subtracted from later on if necessary, but for now, thats it. No time limit, no end, just creative photoshopping.

So without further ado, here is the first image:

Have at it boys!

Domain reveal personal information?

Friday, March 14th, 2008
Can hackers or anyone see my personal information like my address, my full name, ect. just for owning a domain name?

The reason I ask is because I noticed on GoDaddy they want you to buy this info protector type deal which has lead me to believe if I buy a domain and server, anyone who wants to know can find my address and full name? Is this true? If so, how do they see this? How can I prevent them from seeing this? Hopefully I'm wrong.

Do Search Engines Get Bored

Friday, March 14th, 2008
If a site seems to 'work' - the visitors (mostly new) appear happy with the content/structure etc, and the search engines are happy to rank it - is there any value in making small, regular changes to the content to make it appear 'fresher' to the engines, even if this does nothing for the visitor ?

I've read that fairly static sites may get crawled less frequently but so what ?

I tend to the view that 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' - unless you can make the visitor experience more worthwhile. On the other hand, algorithms don't have feelings.
